Vitamin E- A Potent Antioxidant

Vitamin E is a powerful, fat-soluble antioxidant that helps protect cell membranes against damage caused by free radicals and prevents the oxidation of bad cholesterol. The term Vitamin E refers to a group of eight compounds, four tocopherols and four tocotrienols, that comprise the vitamin complex as it is found in nature.

The most well known vitamin E group is alpha-tocopherol. It is most talked about Vitamin E group in diet and food supplements. This is because of its ability to prevent free radical damage which has profound effects on risks of various diseases.

The majority of vitamin E's benefits come from its antioxidant properties. It combines with oxygen and destroys free radicals. It prevents PUFA (polyunsaturated fats )and other oxygen-sensitive compounds from being destroyed by damaging oxidation reactions.

Vitamin E's antioxidant properties are also significant to cell membranes. Vitamin E protects lung cells that are in constant contact with oxygen and white blood cells that help fight disease.Vitamin E can also protect against heart disease and slows down the age related degenerative process.

Food Supplements rich in Vitamin E have various benefits for skin as well as hair.

Vitamin E benefits for skin :
  • It is an excellent moisturizer
  • It protects the skin from environmental pollution
  • It has a protecting action against UV radiation
  • It contains powerful anti-inflammatory action prevents the signs of premature ageing
  • It has excellent wound healing properties
  • Vitamin E is good for healing scars and stretch marks

Vitamin E is naturally present in the skin but the amount of vitamin E is reduced in the skin when exposed to sunlight. Environmental pollutants, as well as oxidative material in the body, cause the formation of “free radicals” which can cause extensive damage to the skin and can cause premature aging. Vitamin E is an excellent antioxidant, thus prevents free radical damage and prevents premature aging.

Similarly Vitamin E is very much beneficial for Hair as well. It Treats hair damage and makes them shiny and lustrous. Vitamin E also enhances the hair growth. Seeing all these benefits of Vitamin E it is advisable that you should make it mandatory to add Vitamin E in your daily diet. May it be in form of food or in form of a nutritional supplement.
